Disclosure and Barring Service
This section provides guidance on The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), including what it is and how to comply with its requirements.
The DBS was established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. This service includes undertaking DBS checks (formerly known as CRB Checks). Only roles meeting the criteria are eligible for a DBS check with the relevant barred list check and it is not lawful to seek this in an ineligible role. Please see the DBS checks model policy P112 and Employing people with criminal convictions P112b, under the policy tab below, for important information regarding DBS checks, how to go about undertaking them and guidance for employing people with criminal records.
