Upcoming changes to finance training provided to Governors

For a number of years, finance training for governors has been provided in conjunction with the subscription package offered by our colleagues in the NCC Governance Service team. Over the last 3 years, the subscription has included access to the Modern Governor platform, which is where our online finance courses have been hosted.

The Governance Service team recently contacted all subscribing school governors to advise that the upcoming subscription package would no longer include access to the Modern Governor platform. This means that access to our finance courses via the platform, would also cease at the same time.

Over the last few months, we have been working with the team behind the GovernorHub platform, to host our online finance courses with them, meaning that governors will be able to access the courses directly on GovernorHub. As you are aware, access to GovernorHub is provided as part of the subscription offered by the Governance Service team. We will be providing further detailed information on how to access our online courses via GovernorHub in due course, so please look out for that.

We have also become aware that Modern Governor have been proactively contacting schools offering them a new subscription for the financial year 2025 – 26. Please be aware that the subscription being offered to Modern Governor will not provide access to any of the Education Finance teams finance courses, whether online or live. As mentioned above, this will run in conjunction with the subscription provided by the NCC Governance Service team.

Schools can of course choose to take up the Modern Governor subscription if they feel that the package being offered will be of use to their governing boards, be of benefit to the school, and of course provides value for money. But to reiterate, the subscription will not provide access to any of our finance training, or indeed any general governance training provided by our colleagues in the Governance Service team.
