Right to work in the UK

This section provides information on conducting right to work checks for all new appointees.  

The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 is intended to ensure that only those people legally entitled to live and work in the UK are offered employment. It is a criminal offence to employ someone whose immigration status prevents them from working in the UK.  You must be able to show that you have a statutory excuse to prevent liability for a penalty. Having undertaken the check to evidence that person you are employing is permitted to undertake work in the UK provides this statutory excuse.
